Norwin School District Athletic Personnel, Students, Parents, and Community Members,
As you know, on Thursday, April 9, 2020, Governor Wolf directed all Pennsylvania schools to close for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. All Norwin School District buildings and facilities currently remain closed in an effort to comply with national and state social distancing guidelines.
Additionally, in accordance with Governor Wolf’s directive, the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, Inc. (PIAA) has cancelled all remaining Winter and Spring sports and championships. The PIAA released in part:
The PIAA Board of Directors will meet in the coming months to address any concerns that arise from the membership from the COVID-19 pandemic. While PIAA remains hopeful that summer activities will be able to commence July 1, it is still too early to reach any decisions or offer guidance at this time. In providing any further guidance to the membership, PIAA will continue to monitor any additional information provided by the Governor’s Office, Department of Health or Department of Education as it relates to interscholastic athletics.

Subsequently, all athletic practices, games, and/or meetings are canceled until further notice. This means that no practice, game, and/or meeting may be conducted under the guidance of a Norwin School District coaches’ supervision, either on or off campus.
With these announcements/decisions many questions have been raised. The District is currently formulating plans to address a number of areas in question. Information regarding the following will be forthcoming:
- Distribution/Recognition for Athletic Awards
- Procedures for reconciliation of athletic equipment
- Status of 2020-2021 Sports Physicals
- Procedures for the start of off-season practices for 2020 Fall Sports
Because of the evolving nature of information during this pandemic, additional updates will be provided on an ongoing basis.
While we recognize that these are difficult times for many, especially our spring student-athletes and coaches, your patience and understanding is greatly appreciated. We empathize with your disappointment and are heartbroken that we will not see our spring teams, specifically our 2020 seniors, compete this season. Thank you for your continued support as we strive to maintain a healthy and safe environment for our students, faculty, staff, and community members.
