“Athlete of the Week” – Fall 2019

2019 Athletes of the Week

Presented by:

On behalf of Duncan Financial Group, the following students have been chosen as the Athlete of the Week Award Winners for the fall season. Students are selected based on good sportsmanship, outstanding academic achievement and exceptional athletic performance. Duncan Financial Group will make a $2,000 donation to the Norwin Letter Winners Club on behalf of the 2019 winners.

August 19th and 26th Award Winners

Ashley Pesarsick – Ashley is a senior captain on the girls tennis team this fall. She is a leader on and off the court and has helped the Lady Knights get off to strong start this season (even defeating Franklin Regional for the first time in 9 years). Despite her daily medical challenges Ashley still plays at an amazing level, always gives 200% and excels in the sport to win for both her school and her team.
Sean Pavlic – Sean is a senior member of the football team this fall. Despite an 0-2 start to he season, Sean is looking to lead his team to their first section win against the Spartans tonight. Sean has been a leader both on and off the field so far this season and his work ethic sets a positive example for all of his teammates to emulate.
Gabby Guldin – Gabby has been a Norwin Cheerleader since middle school, has been a competition cheer team member for four years. She has been named Captain 3 out of the past 4 years on either the sideline or competition team and she is always eager to learn, leads her squad and is respected by all of her teammates.  Gabby is a versatile cheerleader and excels in many areas, her strength and flexibility are evident if you watch her cheer.  
Brandon Grimes – Brandon is a senior on the 2019 football team. He has had a great start to his senior season and is planning to help put the team in position for a playoff birth later this year. His leadership during the first two contest did not go unnoticed by his coaches and they are excited to see him continue to lead his team throughout the season.

September 2nd and 9th Award Winners

Matt Federovich – Matt is a senior on the Boys Soccer team. He has led the team to a number 1 ranking in the WPIAL and is looking to help the team return to the WPIAL Championship for the second year in row. In addition, he currently leads the team in scoring and assists. Best of luck the rest of the year, Matt!
Alex Jubert – Alex is a senior on the 2019 boys cross country team. He has helped to lead his squad to an undefeated record in the section this year and also medaled in the 13th Annual Doundation Invite in Hershey with 350 of the top runners in the state. In addition, Alex also recorded the highest finish for a Norwin male runner ever with a 5th place finish at the Red, White, and Blue invite. Keep up the good work Alex and best of luck the rest of the season.
MacKenzie Asterino – MacKenzie is a senior on this years field hockey team. She has five goals so far this year and continues to work tremendously hard. She is a shining example for what hard work can accomplish. Through her dedication this year, she has worked from a JV player to a varsity starter and currently leads the team in goals.
Jules Crosby – Jules is a senior captain of the Lady Knights Golf Team. She consistently has been the low medalist for the team throughout the year. Recently she also advanced through the section tournament with a score of 92 and qualified for the WPIAL Championship next week. Good luck in that event Jules!!

September 16th and 23rd Award Winners

Victoria Nicholes – Tori is a senior member of the girls volleyball team this year. She is a 2 year starter at middle hitter. Coach Ferragonio says she is a leader both on and off the court. This year her leadership has helped the lady Knights to a first place standing so far and we want to wish her and her teammates the best of luck in the WPIAL playoffs.
Jack Salopek – Jack is a senior captain on the football team this year. His leadership both on the field and off the field are invaluable to the team. But his performance last week also is worthy of recognition. Jack was 19-23 for 413 yards and 6 touchdowns! Setting a Knights Stadium record for passing yards and touchdowns! Congrats Jack, and let’s see some more of the same tonight!
Megan Dietz – Megan is a senior member of the girls soccer team. She is a smart player with a positive attitude who knows the game well and always is sure to be in the right place and the right time. Megan uses her knowledge of the game to constantly be a key component in any game situation.
Samantha Stinner – Samantha is a senior member of the girls tennis team who typically plays first doubles. She is a 4 year letter winner and a team captain. Under her leadership and great play she has lead the Lady Knights tennis team back to the WPIAL playoffs for a second consecutive year. Good luck Samantha!
