“Athletes of the Week” – Fall 2017

2017 Athletes of the Week

On behalf of Duncan Financial Group, the following students have been chosen as the Athlete of the Week Award Winners for the fall season. Students are selected based on good sportsmanship, outstanding academic achievement and exceptional athletic performance. Duncan Financial Group will make a $2,000 donation to the Norwin Letter Winners Club on behalf of the 2017 winners.

August 21st Award Winners

9-1 - Hohman & Chrisman

Courteney Hohman – Courteney is a member of the high school and competition squad where she serves as a captain. She is always eager to learn, leads her squad and respected by all of her teammates.  Her smile lights up the room and her enthusiasm is contagious. As a “flyer” on the high school squad, Courteney’s strength and flexibility is always being challenged as she is hoisted into the air, or thrown into a basket toss.  Her bravery and confidence in her teammates is constantly tested.  If a stunt should fall, Courteney is the first to say, “Let’s try it again.” and will continue working until the stunt is solid.  She is determined and hardworking. Courteney is also very respectful toward her coaches and uses their direction and guidance as a tool for success.
Hannah Chrisman – Hanna is a senior captain of the cheerleading squad who always has a smile on her face. Her knowledge and skill is a huge asset to the high school squad.  She is very supportive of her teammates and offers guidance when they struggle to learn a new skill.  Hannah is always willing to step forward in a leadership role. Hannah is also been recruited by Moore Head University for a full scholarship offer, as well as Purdue University, and Ohio State University. She is an outstanding student and a gifted athletic.

 September 29th Award Winners

Magen Polczynski – Magen is a member of Norwin’s Field Hockey Team who not only is a natural leader and captain but an excellent student with outstanding sportsmanship. Her positive attitude and work ethic always motivates those around her.
Megan Miller – Megan is a 2 year starter on the Girls Volleyball Team and serves as the teams libero this year. She is an incredible player whose relentless defense has her team at the top of the section and looking for a championship.
Marissa Farabaugh – Marissa is also a senior member of the Girls Volleyball Team and she is a 2 year starter.She is the teams setter and runs the court with confidence. Marissa is not only a leader on the court but off the court as well.
Anthony Harding – Anthony is a senior captain on the boys soccer team. Prior to a season ending injury, he helped the Knights win the Kick-Off Classic tournament. He was instrumental in helping the team win their first “Classic” and start the season with a 2-0 record.
Lexy Kendro – Lexy is a senior forward for the Lady Knights Soccer Team. At this point in the season she had scored 12 goals and tallied 6 assists. She is a leader for the team both on and off the field and will look to help the Lady Knights win achieve their goal of a PIAA Championship.
Jessica Gibson – Jessica is a senior leader of the Girls Cross Country team and placed second overall at the prestigious Red, White, and Blue Invitational. She beat her time from last year by over 3 minutes and continues to improve as the season goes on.
John Piekut (not pictured) – John is a senior member of the football team and was nominated for his performance the week of August 28th. John lead the team in tackles against Altoona and also forced 2 fumbles in the Knights 24-0 win.
Dylan Kantz (not pictured) – Dylan is a senior member of the football team and lead the team in receiving yards against Canon McMillan with 131 yards on 5 receptions. Dylan’s offense helped lead the team to a 20 point victory.

 October 20th Award Winners

Dana Ewing – Dana is a senior member of the girls tennis team. Dana was a doubles captain and has a very strong tennis IQ. She was a great leader throughout the entire season.
Victoria Carr – Victoria is a senior cheerleader this fall. Her bravery and confidence is always tested and she is always eager to learn, is a leader on her squad, and is respected by all of her teammates.
Emily Harrigan – Emily is a senior captain of the Girls Soccer Team. She leads the team is goals scored, has been recognized by USA Today, Sport Illustrated and most recently has been selected to play in a national All-Star game – all for her outstanding accomplishments on the field.
Carson Shipley – Carson is a senior member of the boys cross country team. He has been a leader on the team all season and recently helped the boys team win the Westmoreland County Championship. Carson will look to compete in the Individual WPIAL Championship and advance to the state meet.
Matt Ferri – Matt is a senior member of the boys soccer team. Matt is described by his coach as a great student who is always positive. His positive influence on the field has helped his team earn a home playoff this season.
Maria Santilli – Maria is a member of the tennis team and is the 2 time defending WPIAL Champion and has also won a PIAA Championship!
